Nothing Compares To Knowing Him

Philippians 3:8, 12
8 Yes, everything else is worthless when compared with the infinite value of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For His sake I have discarded everything else, counting it all as garbage, so that I could gain Christ,
12 Not that I have already attained, or am already perfected; but I press on, that I may lay hold of that for which Christ Jesus has also laid hold of me.

The apostle Paul always had a passionate love for God. He had made living a life of upholding God’s law his pursuit in life. But after his experience with the Lord on the road to Damascus, his desire in life changed. From that first encounter to the end of his life he desired only one thing, that he might come to know Jesus. Not know about Him but have an intimate relationship with Him.

He reveals in verse eight of this chapter that all of the things he thought were so important in life were nothing more than yesterday’s garbage compared to knowing Jesus personally. Everything else took a back seat in Paul’s life, and knowing Jesus became his daily pursuit. Because of this passionate desire he developed a powerful relationship with the Lord, and in knowing Him, he was able to trust Him, walking by faith in the One who had given His life for Him. He made the choice to press toward the relationship Jesus had already made possible for him.

This is the biggest hindrance and the reason why many Christians do not truly walk by faith, fully trusting God in the daily challenges of life. They reveal this fact by speaking the problem and not the Truth of what God has said is already ours. If like Paul you don’t put other things that in the past were your passion and pursuit in life behind knowing Jesus personally, then you will not be able to press ahead into the infinite value of knowing the One who has already overcome all things for you. Make knowing Him your daily passionate pursuit, and you will have no problem walking by faith and not by sight.
