The Do Not’s of God’s Word

Matthew 6:25
“Therefore I say to you, do not…”

In today’s times where many churches are more interested in tickling itching ears the “do not” messages of the scriptures are not popular, but many don’t realize the power of this statement. Realize that anywhere in the Word of God where the phrase “do not” is used, that means you have a choice. You can choose to not do the things we are told “do not.” You have the power over these decisions. Let’s look at couple examples from the Word of God.

For example in the above verse of Matthew 6:25, Jesus tells us to not worry about our life. Worry is one of the most detrimental things in life. We can choose to cast all our care upon Him for He cares for us. In Romans 12:2 it says do not be conformed to this world but transformed by the renewing of your mind. It is our choice whether we renew our mind and transform our life or keep living conformed to the world. 1 Corinthians 15:33 says do not be deceived, evil company corrupts good habits.

Again, this is a choice we make as to who we allow to influence our lives. The word company refers to who we choose to have as close friends, which will impact our life. There are many “do not’s” in the Bible, and what is powerful about these truths is you really are in control over these things, because the Word of God would not say “do not” if you could not. When we make the choice to “do not,” we choose to live a much better life that every believer has the ability to live.
