We Are Sons & Daughters Through Christ

Galatians 3:26, 4:7
26 For you are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus.
7 Therefore you are no longer a slave, but a son; and if a son, then an heir through God.

In the days of the New Testament, it was the sons of the family that received the inheritance of their father. They also at that time had slaves. Under Roman law you could adopt a slave as part of the family, and when you did, they not only took your name, they were recognized as equal to the sons of the father. They were treated just like the natural born sons, and they received an equal share of the inheritance.

Notice verse 26 above says that we are all sons through faith in Christ Jesus. In verse 28 of the third chapter of Galatians it goes on to tell us that there is neither male nor female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus. The moment you were born again you were adopted into God’s family. Under God’s law by the shedding of His Sons blood, and by your faith in what He did for you, He made you one of His children, and placed you into the family with an equal part of the inheritance that belongs to Jesus.

This is what Galatians 4:7 is telling us. We were slaves to an old fallen sin nature, but because of the blood Jesus shed, He freed us from that sin nature by giving us a new spirit within. We have become a new creation in Christ, but that also means when God looks at us, He sees us as equal to the Son. We need to see ourselves just as He does. We are no longer slaves to a spirit of fear and sin, but are now His sons and daughters through faith in what Jesus has done for us.
