Do Not Harden Your Heart

Hebrews 3:7-8
7 That is why the Holy Spirit says, “Today when you hear his voice,
8 don’t harden your hearts as Israel did when they rebelled, when they tested me in the wilderness.”

Here in Hebrews we learn that the children of Israel did enter into God’s promise for them because of unbelief. In verses 18-19 we find out this unbelief was a result of not obeying God to go in and take possession of what He had said was already theirs. Their hearts were hardened toward God. Then we are warned here in the above scripture not to harden our hearts as they did.

God told the children of Israel He had given this land to them. God did not deny the fact that there were giants in the land, but that He would drive them out before them. The children of Israel did not see themselves the way God did. They said they were like grasshoppers in the sight of the enemy. They lost sight of how big there God is, and what He had said was already theirs. This caused them to not obey what God had told them to do.

For all who are born again for us to not harden our hearts toward God we need to remind ourselves of who we now are in Christ, also recognizing and focusing our attention on the greater One who lives in us, and we need to remember what God has said is already ours. Knowing these things we must then take action. When we do we can enter into what God has for us, for our heart is where faith comes from, and by faith we then obtain what God has provided for us.
