Saved From Wrath

Romans 5:9

Much more then, having now been justified by His blood, we shall be saved from the wrath of God through Him.

By receiving Jesus Christ, we will not face the wrath of God to come (His punishment for sin), because Jesus not only bore our sin, but also the punishment our sin deserved. This is known as the work of propitiation, which means God’s wrath was satisfied. Sin deserved the just punishment of God, but Jesus taking our place satisfied God’s wrath toward man for all who receive Him.

One who is born again no longer has a desire within their spirit man for sin. That old nature within is gone. We still have an outward sin nature within the flesh to deal with, and our gratitude for what Christ has done for us should lead us to now present our bodies as a living sacrifice unto God. Whenever we do get in the flesh and sin, we should immediately confess our sin as 1 John 1:9 tells us to do so, but we should also do something else as well.

1 John 2:1-2 tells us we should also remind ourselves we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ, who has satisfied God’s wrath for us. Simply put, we should then not punish ourselves for sin we have repented for. God is not punishing us, so we should not do so. The devil wants us to punish ourselves to make us feel far from God. God never leaves us nor forsakes us. So don’t punish yourself, just repent and turn to God who is there to help you overcome all sin.
