The Influence of Grace

Romans 5:2

Through Him we have also obtained access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and we rejoice in hope of the glory of God.

We enter into a position of grace, divine favor with God, through our faith in Jesus Christ. This position of grace brings a gratitude for what He has done. The Word grace here is defined as: The divine influence upon the heart, and its reflection in the life; including gratitude. In today’s times you here a lot of teaching about grace that leads you to believe it doesn’t matter how you live your life for you are saved by grace.

We are saved by grace through faith, which is a place of undeserved favor. We did nothing nor could we do anything that could make us right with God. We receive what Christ did by faith to make us right with Him. But this position of grace places this divine influence on the heart of man to now live for God because of the gratitude we have for Him bearing our sin, and the punishment our sin deserved. Teaching that it does not matter how you live your life because you are saved by grace is not the grace of the Bible.

Once born again the motive for living our life in following after Christ’s example is not to get right with God, but our motive to follow in His footsteps is the gratitude we have in our heart for Him making us right with God. If you try to follow after Christ to get right with God you will live life feeling like a failure because you could not do so by your own merit. But the gratitude produced by grace in our heart leads us every day to want to follow after Him, and not after the ways of the world. Let gratitude for what Christ has done for you be a governing force in your life each day.
