Become One With God’s Word

John 8:31-32
31 Then Jesus said to those Jews who believed Him, “If you abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed.
32 And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.”

A disciple of Jesus is more than just someone who is born again. Being born again is just the beginning. The word disciple means one who learns through instruction under a teacher, with the purpose of adhering to their example. Many who say they are Christians seem content just to be born again. But the purpose was to become one who learns from and adheres to the example of our Savior, Jesus Christ, of whom we have now become one with in spirit.

Here in the above verses Jesus gives us another key nugget of what it takes to be His disciple. We must abide in His Word. What exactly does it mean to abide in His Word? The word abide means to remain and become one with. We are to become one with the Word of the Lord. You cannot do that if you do not live in His Word. Many today rarely pick up their Bibles, but to walk in the fullness of who you are in Christ you must live in the Word so that your mind can be renewed to the Truth of who you now are in Christ Jesus.

Knowing the Truth is what brings liberty from the old fallen fleshly nature, and the deceptive misleading ways of satan. But as you become one with the Word of God by revelation through that Word of who you have now become as a new creation in Christ Jesus, you begin to see your outward life transformed into this new man. So choose to not only live in the Word of God, but to also accept all that the New Testament says about you. As you become one with the Word, the Truth of who you now are will set you free from the old man’s ways, and free from the lies and deception of the enemy.
