teaching you how to walk in the light of god's word
Jeremiah 3:15
“Then I will give you shepherds who trust and know Me, wise teachers who will impart knowledge and understanding to you.”
It saddens me to see and hear so many believers who are so deceived when it comes to the subject of going to church and having a shepherd in their life. If God did not want you to have a pastor to teach you the Truth of God’s Word, helping to equip you for the work of the ministry, then why did He provide them? But even if you are someone who does believe God wants you in His house, what is one of the signs we are connected to the right shepherd? Good question.
A shepherd who is gifted by God to feed His flock will be someone who not only knows God, but they will impart knowledge and understanding to you. Simply put, they teach sound doctrine. In Titus 2:1, a letter written to Titus who was a pastor, Titus is told to speak the things which are proper for “sound doctrine”. Your pastor should teach sound doctrine. Simply put, he should only teach the Word of God, not his personal opinion or man’s philosophy. Yet many popular preachers say things contrary to scripture, sharing what is nothing more than their own opinion.
In 2 Timothy 4:2 Paul tells Timothy, who was also a pastor to”Preach the Word”. When you find the pastor God has for you, that pastor will stick to the Word of God. They will not speak contrary to scripture. Some pastors today even say attending church isn’t that important, but that is not what God’s Word teaches. You need a shepherd God has gifted to impart wisdom and understanding into your life. Such a shepherd will have sound doctrine, teaching in line with all of the Word of God.
