The Redeeming Work of Our Savior

Colossians 1:14
In Whom we have our redemption through His blood, [which means] the forgiveness of our sins.

The word redemption means to liberate through the payment of a ransom. Before being born again we were slaves of sin, and of all that came as a result of sin. But Jesus in shedding His blood paid the price to set us free. We see a picture of this redeeming work through the seven redemptive names of God revealed in the Old Testament. Let’s look at these names and see what He has done for us.

  1. JEHOVAH JIREH – THE LORD MY PROVIDER (GEN. 22:14) – Just as the Lord provided a ram for Abraham, He will provide all our needs.
  2. JEHOVAH RAPAH – THE LORD MY HEALER (EX. 15:26) – The Lord has provided us healing just as He did for the children of Israel.
  3. JEHOVAH NISSI – THE LORD MY BANNER (EX 17:15) – He is our banner of victory over all our enemies as He was for His children in the wilderness.
  4. JEHOVAH SHALOM – THE LORD MY PEACE (JUDGES 6:24) – The Lord is our peace as He was to Gideon.
  5. JEHOVAH ROHI – THE LORD MY SHEPHERD (PSALM 23:1) – He will watch over us as a shepherd does His sheep.
  6. JEHOVAH TSIDKENU – THE LORD MY RIGHTEOUSNESS (JER 23:6) – He has made us right with God by giving us His righteousness.
  7. JEHOVAH SHAMMAH – THE LORD IS THERE FOR ME – He is always with us and will never leave us nor forsake us.

As we take time getting to know Him, we can experience the blessing of His full redemption, for all of His redeeming work is ours now.
