But God forbid that I should boast except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world.
The believer in Christ has been crucified to the world. The word crucified here means: to destroy it’s power. By faith in the power of the cross of Christ, the world’s power over the believer has been broken. You are in the world, but no longer of the world for you are a new creation in Christ Jesus. To see this inward transformation now change us on the outside, we must do two things as stated in Romans 12:1-2.
First we must present our bodies as a living sacrifice, holy, set apart unto God. Our fleshly body should not rule us. So we must daily choose to honor God by yielding our body in obedience to Him. Secondly we must renew our minds to the Word of God, specifically learning who we now are in Christ Jesus, and what He has done for us through the cross, so that we no longer conform to the world, but are transformed into this new man.
Renewing the mind is not complete until one becomes a doer of the Word. This includes confessing who we now are in Christ, boasting in the cross and what Jesus has done for us. This renewing of the mind to the new you on the inside is the greatest need in the body of Christ. Through a renewed mind we are set free from the worlds ways, and become living proof of the good, acceptable, and perfect will of God.
