Don’t Be Robbed of Your Faith

Colossians 2:8
Be careful not to let anyone rob you of this faith through a shallow and misleading philosophy. Such a person follows human traditions and the world’s way of doing things rather than following Christ.

We are warned over and over in scripture about not being deceived, robbed, and led astray by others. Here the warning is to beware of shallow and misleading philosophy, which is another way to say those who water down the Word of God. They tell people what they want to hear, or they simply won’t teach people the whole truth of God’s Word because they don’t want to offend anyone.

Recently I read a statement by a pastor who said he tells his congregation to come to church as little as possible. He tells them to sleep in or to go do other things with their family. How do you known when someone is robbing you through shallow philosophy? Simple, what they are saying goes contrary to the Word of God. As the apostle Paul told young pastor Timothy, “Preach the Word”. In other words, don’t give you own opinion or what you think, just declare the Word of God.

In the above example there are many scriptures that go against what this pastor is telling his congregation. Hebrews 10:25 tells us not to forsake assembling together (which refers to going to the house of God), and even so much the more not less, as the return of Christ draws near. As a believer you should heed the words of the apostle Paul above. Stop allowing people to rob you of your faith. Get connected to a pastor that will actually preach the Word, not his own philosophy. Doing so will keep you from being robbed of your faith.
