It Is Finished

John 19:30
So when Jesus had received the sour wine, He said, “It is finished!” And bowing His head, He gave up His spirit.

The day Jesus died on the cross He fulfilled what scripture had prophesied, He, being the Passover Lamb to take the sin and punishment man deserved. He also then fulfilled His Word over the next three days for He died on a Wednesday not a Friday as mans tradition has said. He declared He would be in the earth as Jonah was in the belly of the whale 3 days and 3 nights. There is no way that could happen from Friday to Sunday, and God does not lie. He does what He says.

The day of Wednesday was the preparation day for a special Sabbath as John 19:31 tells us, it was a “high day”. It was not a preparation day of the weekly Sabbath on Saturday, but in fact a preparation day for a Sabbath which followed the Passover to be recognized on the 14th day of Nisan. The Passover began on that day at 6:00 pm, the day Jesus shed His blood so that we could have death pass over all who have received Him and the payment he made for our sin.

There was also the weekly Sabbath to be observed which happens from Friday at 6:00 pm until Saturday at 6:00 pm. This is why scripture tells us that Mary went to the tomb after the weekly Sabbath was over on Saturday at 6:00 pm. She went early the next morning and the stone was already rolled away for Jesus had risen after the end of the third day, Saturday 6:00 pm, just as He had said. You can take God at His Word today for He is faithful to fulfill what He has declared in His Word. He does exactly what He says and a lot can change in three days!
